24 Questions to ask on your next job interview

When you go to a job interview, don’t forget the interview goes both ways. Interviews are not only meant for companies to ask you a ton of questions to see if you’re right for them, but they are also your chance to find out if the company is the right fit for you too. Plus it’s a chance to be more proactive vs reactive to the interviewer's questions.

Bringing questions will make you feel more confident. The last thing you want is to end an interview with the hiring manager asking “Do you have any questions for me” and you say “Nope, I’m good!”

This means this your opportunity to ask thoughtful questions while making sure the role and the company are the right fit for you.
What should I ask during a job interview?

To get you thinking, we’ve put together a bank of helpful questions to ask in an interview.

Ask the Interviewer

  1. How long have you been with the company?

  2. Has your role changed since you’ve been here?

  3. Why did you come to this company?

  4. What’s your favorite part about working here?

  5. What’s different about working here than anywhere else you’ve worked?

Ask about the Team

  1. What can you tell me about the team I’ll be working with?

  2. Who will I work with most closely?

  3. Who will I report to directly?

  4. Can you tell me about my direct reports?

  5. What are the team’s biggest challenges?

  6. What are the common career paths?

  7. Can you tell me about the last team event you had together?

  8. What do you and the team usually do for lunch?

  9. Does the team do anything to celebrate their wins?

Ask about the Company

  1. How would you describe the company culture?

  2. What can you tell me about your new products?

  3. Does the company have an employee recognition program?

  4. How has the company changed since you joined?

  5. What are the current goals that the company is focused on and how does this team support those goals?

  6. Where do you see this company in the next few years?

  7. What gets you most excited about the company’s future?

Ask about Next Steps

  1. Is there anything that concerns you about my background being a fit for this role?

  2. Is there anything else I can provide you with that would be helpful?

  3. What are the next steps in the interview process?

Keep these questions on hand during your next interview.

Remember, these are here for you as a bank of questions to pull from. Realistically, you will only be able to ask a few and the interviewer or HR will likely answer most of your questions throughout the interview. Be sure not to ask questions that were already answered. This will make it look like you weren’t listening
